Corona Testing

The Corona Test is used primarily for detecting ionization (corona discharge) on the network. Since corona discharge causes the waste of energy on the high voltage networks and impacts the lifecycle of the asset, performing an asset inspection is necessary throughout the lifetime of any substation, distribution or transmission network. PLP is able to conduct insightful surveys by using
an appropriate sensor on ground-based devices, UAVs or Helicopters to pinpoint corona discharge.

The asset owner can then take corrective actions to address the problem once the areas of concern are identified. Improved insulation, component designs with rounded shapes and corona rings assist with the suppression of corona and reduce reduce long-term maintenance costs.
