PLP New Zealand’s 400kN tensile test bed is used to conduct destructive mechanical testing for new designs and batch compliance of manufactured products.

Cable connectors are tested in accordance with standards such as IEC 61284, IEC 61238-1, AS 1154.1 and AS 1154.3.

Engineered and built in-house by the PLP NZ’s Engineering team, the 400kN test bed accommodates test rigs up to 11m long.

The load is applied by a hydraulic cylinder through an accurate control system, which is measured and displayed via digital indicators and graphs.

The 50kN and 400kN load cells are accurately calibrated annually by an external calibration laboratory. The tensile test bed complements established heat cycle and short-circuit test facilities and represents a significant investment in PLP’s in-house development capabilities.
